For NFL fans, front office executives and prospective draft picks alike, this is one of the most fun, exciting, and somewhat nerve-wracking days of the year. While fans watch in anticipation of finding out who their newest players will be, the incoming rookies wait patiently to hear their names called and have their dreams of becoming an NFL player come true.
Right now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars own the top 3 draft picks, but, as we have seen in the past, that can all change on draft day. Each team’s front office is already in the war room making final evaluations and contacting other teams about possible trades. For months we have been trying to predict what will happen, but there are still a ton of questions and no guarantees going into this year’s draft.
Jameis Winston is seen as the top quarterback in the draft and projected by many to be the first overall pick, but will he holding up a Buccaneers jersey on draft night? And what about the other top QB, Marcus Mariota? Will he be wearing a Titans jersey next season, or will a team like the Eagles trade up and reunite coach Chip Kelly with his college recruit? These two quarterbacks are hot commodities and are sure to shake up the top of the first round of this draft.
Outside of quarterbacks, there is still tons of talent at the top of the draft. Top defensive prospect, Leonard Williams, is expected to go in the top 5 picks and could be wearing a Jaguars or Raiders jersey next season. Also, like the two top quarterbacks, wide receivers Amari Cooper and Kevin White will be top picks and could become coveted members of the New York Jets’, Chicago Bears’, or even the New York Giants’ receiving corps. Could you imagine Odell Beckham Jr. and Amari Cooper lining up side by side?
While we can all begin to make predictions of who our favorite teams will pick to build their future with, nothing will be known until the Bucs go on the clock at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago tomorrow at 8PM.
